- 54 Values Guide as of May 09

Below you will
find a reference guide to help determine the current value of your car.
Please do not assume every car in existence is valued exactly as in
these charts. Many other factors will adjust the ultimate value.
This is just a
guide.
The prices for the 1953 and 1954 Chevrolets
listed here are compilations of national data by the editors of the
publication: Old Cars Weekly News & Marketplace. The data includes
prices from collector car auctions, verified reports of private sales,
and input from experts (whoever they are).
Other factors
like geographic location, time of year, person preference and ownership
history will always make adjustments to the final value of a vehicle.

#1 Excellent
Restored to current maximum professional standards
of quality in every area, or perfect original with components operating
as new. A 95-plus point show car that is not driven. In a sense, it
has ceased to be an automobile and has become an object of art. It is
transported to shows in an enclosed trailer and is stored in a climate
controlled environment. There are very few #1 cars.
In layman's terms, when a 1956 T-Bird is judged in
this condition for show points, the judge will count the number of
stitches per inch of thread in the seat to make sure it matches Fords
original
specs.
#2 Fine
well restored, or a combination of superior restoration and excellent
original. Also, an extremely well maintained original showing very
minimal wear. Except for the very closest inspection a #2 vehicle may
appear as a #1. The #2 will take the top award in many judged shows,
except when squared off against a #1. It may also be driven 800 to 1000 miles per year to shows, on tours, and
for pleasure. In anything except a
"Concourse" show, the best of the best is usually a #2.
# 3 Very Good,
Completely operable original or older restoration
showing wear. Also, a good amateur restoration all presentable inside
and out. Plus, combinations of well-done restoration and good operable
components; or a partial restored car with all parts used in its
restoration NOS. This car from 20 feet away
would looks perfect. But, as we approach it, we may begin to notice that
the paint may be getting a little thin in spots. Inside, we may detect
some wear on the drivers seat, foot pedals, and carpet, etc. The chrome
trim, while still quite presentable, may have lost the sharp mirror-like
reflective quality it had when new. All systems and equipment on the car
are in good operating order. This is you
cruise night show car, under the night lights and 20 feet away it is
gorgeous.
#4
Good, A drivable vehicle
needing no, or only minor, work to be functional. It may be a
deteriorated restoration or a very poor amateur restoration. All
components may need restoration to be "excellent". But, the car is
mostly usable as it. This is a driver. It may be in the process of
restoration. But, from 20 feet away, there is no doubt that it needs
lots of help.
#5 Restorable (not
valued below in the guide) Needs complete
restoration of body, chassis, and interior. May or may not be running,
but, isn't weathered wreaked and/or stripped to the point of being
useful only for parts. The car needs everything. It may not be
operable, but it is essentially all there and has only minor surface
rust, if any at all. While presenting a real challenge to the restorer,
it won't have him doing a lot of chasing for missing parts.
To obtain a number 5 condition rating value for
your vehicle, multiply the number 1 value listed for that vehicle by
0.12.
#6
Parts Car (not valued below in the guide)
May or may not be running, but is weathered,
wreaked and/or stripped to the point of being useful primarily for
parts. This is an incomplete or greatly deteriorated, perhaps rusty
vehicle where much of the car is in very bad condition.
This cars value would be in the eye of the
beholder. Usually cars in this condition are only of interest if it is a
convertible or hard top or has some very interesting history.
#7 Loan Value
Interesting observation I think,
from May 08 to May 09 on average the expencive model values went up and
the cheaper model values went down.
