1953-1954 Chevy Taillight Socket. This Socket is a dual Contact Socket. It can be used one 53 or 54 but the 53 originally had a single contact socket listed else ware on my website. The socket is a replacement 1157 socket that works well with either the 1953 or 1954 Chevy Taillight backing plate using the original spring on the backing plate as GM did. This socket will not work in the backup light hole in the backing plate.
That one backup hole is 1 1/2 inch in size. No one make a replacement socket that size today. Listed elsewhere you will find that I offer a socket with adapter for use in the backup hole. This adapter/socket I make resembles very closely the original GM backup socket.
One important point to understand in reference to 1953 versus 1954 Chevy Taillights. The rear fender area on the 1953 or 1954 Chevy where the taillight mounts is the same for both years. But the backing plate that the chrome bezel mounts onto, is different on the 1953 and the 1954 Chevy. So to change the taillight assembly from 1953 to 1954 or visa versa you need to replace all the lenses, The gaskets, the chrome bezel and the backing plate.
